Taking Action in The Forest: The First Year Experience with Kamila

To learn more about the First Year experience, let’s hear from Kamila, an International Relations and Philosophy major. Drew’s beautiful wooded campus, called The Forest, is the perfect home base. It’s a historic campus offering the comforts of small town living, the excitement of big city adventure and easy access to a world of opportunities. Kamila, please tell us about the opportunities you’ve experienced here on campus.

– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. When I first toured Drew University, I knew the school was the place for me. I found love with the campus, the academics, and the opportunities to get involved. Freshman orientation eased me into the Drew experience, and I met many new friends. Getting involved at Drew is so easy. As an incoming freshman, I applied to be an action scholar, which placed me in an environment where I’m encouraged to create changes within my community. I’ve learned so much about my place in this world, like breaking down biases that can prevent people from truly helping others. I even had the opportunity to volunteer at the local preschool and apply everything I’ve learned. The Center for Civic Engagement has amazing people who have pushed me to become a spokesperson and a change maker. Drew’s also nicknamed a university in the forest and has beautiful greenery. I sometimes stop and take pictures of the campus as I walk to class. But not only is the campus filled with trees, it is also filled with opportunities. Just within my first month here, I joined student government where I’m able to work with administrators and advocate for student needs on their behalf. Drew makes advocating for students easy as they’re always willing to hear what the students want. I’ve grown more passionate about our student life and appreciate Drew for allowing me to be part of great changes so early in my college career. I’d never thought I’d be so involved so quickly as a freshman, but with the many clubs and events, you will find your place here. The beautiful campus is just the cherry on top of this great school.
