Purposeful Engineering Program with Lucas

Segment #3 from Concordia University Wisconsin

Transcript

It’s time to meet Lucas, a baseball player who’s in an engineering program that encourages students to make a difference through innovation. Applying practical lessons from his coursework and internship, Lucas had the opportunity to create something special to help people in his community. Lucas, tell us how the CUW engineering program has helped you have a real world impact. Take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. Growing up, I always chased after challenges. My decision to attend Concordia University gave me an opportunity to do just that. Here, I major in industrial engineering, minor in computer science, and I’m a student athlete. I knew CUW would be the best place for me to develop and merge my passion for innovation with a desire to make a difference in the world. From the beginning, the faculty made me feel comfortable with their warm smiles and sharp minds. Immersing myself into the culture of innovation and inspiration was easy. It’s in all aspects of campus life, from the dynamic classroom discussions to the cutting edge research projects, which I’m already taking advantage of. I worked on a project with Penfield Children’s Hospital where they challenged us to create a cost-effective adaptive toy for children with varying abilities. In collaboration with the Makerspace on campus, we designed a therapeutic device in our lab that fits specific needs. This hands-on experience was a deep dive into applying engineering principles to solve real world challenges. Through this project, I learned my sense of purpose, to help people. The real world opportunities I’ve had here are the center of what engineering at CUW is all about. One of the best feelings as a student is knowing you have a support system behind you. Thanks to one of my professors, I secured a robotics internship at a leading tech firm. This opportunity exposed me to invaluable professional knowledge and provided me career advantages that shaped my academic and professional journey. I’ve already been able to make a meaningful impact on my community, and as I look to the future, I’m excited about the possibilities. I’m grateful for my CUW experience and eager to see where this engineering path will lead me. Back to you, Alex.

Lucas, your experience illustrates how CUW’s engineering program transcends traditional boundaries, integrating academic excellence with real world applications. Thanks, Lucas, for demonstrating how CUW engineers make a meaningful difference.
