All right, everyone, let’s head over and meet Alex. By the way great name, I love it. Alex is a sophomore majoring in communications here at KSU. He’s gonna talk to us about his personal story of overcoming and pushing forward with the help of KSU resources despite falling ill with meningitis. Alex, you are up.
– Hi, everyone. Thanks so much, Alex. Looks like we’re name twins. I’m a transfer student from college in Tennessee. I got an apartment here, I got my family here, closer to home. This place is just from there. When I was a freshman in college at Nashville, I got very sick. I had mono, which turned into a brain infection. I was in hospitals, rehabilitation for most of 2019. My whole life was interrupted. I had to relearn how to walk, talk, everything so being somewhat close to home is important. I love Kennesaw. It’s offers a variety of classes. I changed my major from business to communications because I really enjoy communications classes. I hope to blend my love of music with communications degree to create a future in the music and entertainment business. My instructors at Kennesaw have been amazing at guiding me in that direction. Because of my brain injury, I’m fortunate enough to receive academic aid and accommodations. Also, I love the Kennesaw campus. I reserve music rooms and practice for upcoming gigs. But my favorite part of campus is the dining hall. The beef brisket is my favorite thing that they have. It’s amazing. Socially, KSU is great too. I play rec basketball, ultimate Frisbee and handball. There are lots of venues nearby where I play my guitar. I play open mic nights at Madlife just close to KSU. Despite my setbacks for my sickness, Kennesaw State’s communication program has show me in future to prepare me for amazing possibilities. Everyone’s college journey is different. I’m a lucky guy discovering mine at Kennesaw State. That’s my story. Back to you, Alex.
– Wow, Alex, what an inspiration. To be able to stay dedicated and resilient despite your circumstances is truly, truly amazing. Being a part of such an inclusive and accessible university like Kennesaw State is absolutely an essential requirement as you move forward with your bright future. Thanks again for sharing your story, Alex. Take care.
