Let’s give a warm welcome to Wynton. Coming from Detroit, Michigan, he’s a junior majoring in cybersecurity. Today, he’ll walk us through EMU’s cutting edge tech spaces where hands-on learning meets the demands of tomorrow’s job market, all within the top ranked GameAbove College of Engineering & Technology. Take it away, Wynton.

– Thanks, Alex. What is up, guys? Six years of taking computer classes throughout elementary and middle school wasn’t enough to get me interested in cybersecurity, and the fact that it’s a growing field was a major selling point for me. Sill Hall, home of the GameAbove College of Engineering & Technology was proof that Eastern Michigan University was interested in the field and helping students like me get a great education. Sill might just be the best building on campus, with its state-of-the-art dual monitor computer classrooms, study lounges and research labs for engineering. I’ve learned about web development, digital forensics, crypto analysis, and my personal favorite, ethical hacking. I mean, how cool is it to get homework that as you hacking into systems as the good guys, of course. Professors do a great job of giving realistic assignments while being understanding of people who are learning these things for the first time. I’ve gotten a well-rounded cybersecurity education here at EMU. EMU has the resources of a big university with a small campus feel. The small class sizes make it easier to learn and get to know your professors, while living on campus has helped me make friends on the EMU cheer team that’ll last a lifetime. I feel prepared for whatever my next steps are after college. I worked my first internship last summer with a loan agency on their IT and security team. I felt so assured when I saw I’d be doing things I learned in my classes. I always wanted to be a hero when I was a kid. Now, I might not have superpowers, but I do have the ability to protect innocent people’s information from theft. How cool does that sound, Alex? Back to you.

– With EMU’s impressive lab spaces, students are equipped to tackle real world challenges head on. Keep up the great work, Wynton, and keep those digital fortresses strong.
