– Hey, everyone. As a Hispanic American first generation college student, my parents always taught me the value of education. I knew I needed to find a school that could support my uncommon ambitions, and Concordia University was the answer. As a student, I have been able to continue to develop a close knit community with peers and professors who make me feel valued and understood. These relationships have helped me thrive as a first generation student. I have people here who reach out to me, guide me through challenges, care about my achievements, and support my faith. Having recently been baptized LCMS, Concordia’s commitment to faith is deeply important to me. Through daily chapel and Bible study groups, I have been able to continue to learn and grow both in my faith and academics. My dream to become a math teacher stems from my desire to advocate for possibilities within STEM fields, especially in the Latino community. I aspire to be a role model for other first generation students, demonstrating that with perseverance and dedication, any goal is achievable. Concordia equips its students to build relationships with people from all different backgrounds. I’m a member of Latino Student Union, which gives me a platform to share my culture with my peers. I love hanging out with my friends and sharing my heritage with them as we play , and they’ve all tried my favorite childhood treats, . Celebrating these traditions with others fosters a sense of pride for me and my community. Concordia has taught me so much that goes beyond a textbook. Here, I have a community and I’m celebrated for who I am. As a future teacher, I plan to create a supportive environment for my students in the classroom and beyond, just as Concordia has done for me. Back to you, Alex.

– Miranda, thank you for sharing your journey with us and demonstrating the powerful impact of living one’s faith through education. Your path inspires first generation students and future educators, proving that anything is possible with faith and a supportive college community. Thanks again and take care.
