Connecting With New Titans with Bettina
Segment #1 from Cal State Fullerton
Transcript
Let’s catch up with Bettina. She was born here in Southern California, but raised in the Philippines. She found her place at Cal State Fullerton and embraced the Titan community by giving back through mentorship and student involvement. From leading campus tours to guiding others to study abroad, Bettina is a testament to the supportive and enriching environment at CSUF. Take it away, Bettina.
– Thanks, Alex. The path that first led me here was admittedly unconventional. Though I was born in Southern California, I spent much of my youth in the Philippines, so when I moved back to the states, I experienced a bit of difficulty assimilating to the American way of life. But once I entered Cal State Fullerton, the Titan community welcomed me with open arms. My freshman year I connected with several upperclassmen who mentored me and their insights were incredibly valuable and truly set me up for success. One piece of advice they gave me was to get involved, so I joined the Philippine American Students Association or PASA, and there I was able to connect with the large Filipino community throughout the West coast. I was also able to connect with other students at Friendship Games, an annual intercollegiate competition founded by PASA that has been occurring since 1986. The kindness and patience shown to me as a freshman, it inspired me and I wanted to pay it forward, so I became an orientation leader where I welcome newly admitted students and facilitated the orientation process. I also work as a Titan ambassador where I deliver campus tour and assist prospective students and their families. Another way I help students is by guiding them on their journey to studying abroad. I studied abroad in the south of Germany and had an amazing time. Now, I encourage other students to be courageous and explore the world. I’m proud to say I’ve accomplished much during my time at Cal State Fullerton, but none of which would be possible without the people I met along the way. This community fostered a safe space where I was able to grow and thrive. Now, after graduation, I hope to further my marketing career in the international entertainment and tourism industries. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me. Alright, Alex, you’re up.
– Bettina, it’s amazing to hear how Cal State Fullerton has shaped your journey and inspired you to give back. We know you’ll continue to make an impact as you pursue your career in international entertainment and tourism. Keep up the great work Bettina, and thanks again.
