Building a Network: The Transfer Experience with Benjamin

Segment #10 from Drew University

Transcript

It’s time to meet Benjamin, a Marketing and Business double major and History minor. His Drew University journey started as a transfer student and he’s excited to share more about the support and encouragement he received every step of the way, from staff, faculty, and his classmates. Let’s hear it, Benjamin.

– Thanks for introducing me, Alex. Near the end of my time in high school, I was uncertain of my future plans. With the help of an amazing scholarship and the inspiration of my late father, I made the decision to spend two years in community college, pursuing an associate’s degree in business. When it came time to transfer to a four year institution, I felt afraid and uncertain of the next steps. Luckily, I crossed paths with the director of transfer at Drew University. Whether it was question, concern, or request to connect with someone, her guidance throughout the transfer process allowed me to step outta my comfort zone and integrate into the community seamlessly. In my time at Drew, I’ve immersed myself by seizing leadership roles in clubs and securing a job. The business program at Drew has been a wonderful experience. Opportunities such as the Bearden, which involves presenting semester long projects that industry experts and alumni have challenged me critically and allowed me to receive insightful feedback. In addition, the ability to double major in two dynamic fields has benefited me greatly. Not only have I enjoyed the academics and extracurriculars offered, but I further developed myself with the resources offered on campus like career development, advising, subject tutoring, coaching, mentoring, and many more. The welfare of resources offered here truly helps students succeed and jumpstart their careers. I don’t feel like the same person I was when first stepping foot onto Drew’s campus. The time spent here has changed me for the better, and luckily there is still more to go before the conclusion of my journey. As a proud first generation student, I’m working towards my dreams and I will never stop believing. Thanks for having me, Alex. Throwing it back to you.

– Amazing, Benjamin. The Bearden, that sounds like a great experience. It’s clear you’ve found your place at Drew, and take advantage of every opportunity and resource available. We are all wishing you the best of luck with your future and your last year at Drew. Thanks again, Benjamin.
