Mentorship Takes Center Stage: The Performing Arts Experience with Anjelina

Let us introduce you to Anjelina, a Media & Communications major and an avid dancer. She can’t wait to share all the opportunities to perform at Drew, from being on the Dance Team to acting in the award-winning theater or singing in the majestic concert hall. There is no shortage of ways to express yourself right here at Drew. It’s your show, Anjelina. Take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. That was a great way to set the stage. I’ve been performing my whole life. Dance recitals, choir concerts, plays, you name it. When I was thinking about college, I knew I wanted to study media, but I wasn’t sure I was ready to give up performing. Luckily for me, Drew University has endless opportunities. During the day, you might find me editing in the computer lab, but at night, I get to rehearse my heart out. For the past two years, I’ve been a member of our ranger arts dance team and a participant in every dance showcase. This past spring, I even got to choreograph a piece for the showcase. I love that even though I’m not a theater major or minor, there’s nothing stopping me from being immersed in that world. And if I wanted to, I could even explore stage management, lighting, dramaturgy, anything. Truly, the sky’s the limit here. Not only do I love the opportunities I have at Drew, but I love how our faculty helps us seize them. The dance professor I had this year helped me every step of the way in my choreography process, supporting and challenging me to do my best despite it being my first ever piece. I was beyond proud in the end. Being at Drew has opened so many doors for me. The chance to perform is just one of them. But the help from my faculty mentors, I am more confident than ever in my ability to pursue my passions alongside my academics, and I’m excited to enter my junior year to explore how I might even merge them.
