Segment #6 from Drew University

Transcript

Let’s hear from Ella, a Media & Communications major and a member of the Drew Women’s Soccer Team. Drew Ranger student-athletes are renowned for the dual passion they have for their sport and their academic careers. Let’s kick it over to Ella on the soccer field to learn more about the student-athlete experience right here at Drew. Take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. Growing up, I always wanted to play college soccer, but I also wanted to be able to balance my academics. When I first began my search for college, I was unsure about where I could envision my future. That changed when I discovered Drew University. The beautiful campus and location was the first thing that caught my attention. I knew I belonged here. Well, there are many aspects of Drew that I love. The athletics program and the exceptional athletic staff stand out as a favorite. There is a family-like atmosphere and opportunities for leadership. All of the athletes here are invested in the success of every team and it makes college feel much more special and rewarding. Even battling back from an injury all year, I was still a part of the supportive community. Additionally, our small class sizes provide me with increased interaction and many more opportunities to form strong bonds with my classmates and professors. We have so many opportunities here to study abroad and I’m planning for the New York City semester this spring. Being a part of the student athlete experience is enhancing my college journey by fostering discipline, teamwork, and time management skills, while also providing a sense of community, school spirit, and a balanced lifestyle that enriches both academic and personal growth. When I first started my college journey, I would not have imagined I would have learned and grown so much in just one year. I’ve been taught valuable lessons by my coaches, fellow athletes, friends, and professors. Drew University holds a special place in my heart because it has given me a home away from home and a community that I’m proud to be a part of. That’s my story. Kicking it back to you, Alex.

– Ella, thank you for sharing your experience of being a student and an athlete. Drew Rangers compete in 26 NCAA Division III varsity sports and have boasted championship titles, scholarly awards, and real-world experience during their careers in the forest. Go Rangers and thanks again, Ella.
