Campus Connections: The Student Leader Experience with Nicole

Segment #3 from Drew University

Transcript

Let us introduce you to Nicole, a double major in English and French, with minors in Psychology and Teaching. With Drew’s impressive list of programs, she stays busy with her academics. She’s also very active as a student leader on campus and a true advocate for the powerful community at Drew. Nicole, the floor is all yours.

– Thanks, Alex. When I started my college search, I knew I wanted an experience where I could get individualized attention while being a part of a supportive community. I thrive when I have personal connections with mentors who give me feedback and guidance. At Drew University, I get the mentorship I need in and out of the classroom. Drew is full of professors, staff and student leaders who are so passionate about what they do. That’s what drew me to work with admissions and the Office of Residence Life. As a student tour guide coordinator and a community advisor, I have found staff who care about my development as a student and also my professional development. They sought out my potential and gave me opportunities where they knew I would be challenged, but would also shine. In terms of academics, I’m a Baldwin honor scholar, so I’ve been spending a lot of time working on my thesis. My advisors have helped me hone in on my research, writing and critical thinking skills. Their guidance has led me to think differently and push my own ideas to new heights. The community mentality at Drew where everyone is helping each other grow is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I have a community within my classes, my residence hall, at work, and within clubs like our student newspaper, The Drew Acorn. Here at Drew, you can’t help but feel a part of something unique and special. The guidance I receive from staff and professors helps me discover my own potential. More importantly, it’s taught me how to do the same for others. I wanna pull out the best in people because Drew and all of my mentors and friends here have done that for me. Over to you, Alex.

– Wow, Nicole. How do you find the time to accomplish everything, from writing an honors thesis to giving tours to leading the student newspaper? It is clear the mentorship and community at Drew creates students who thrive just like you. Way to go, Nicole. Take care.
