From Chesterfield, Michigan, let’s meet Christina. With a passion for numbers, language, and culture, Christina shows us how being multifaceted is supported within EMU’s College of Arts & Sciences. Not only that, but her experiences studying abroad in Spain allowed her to expand her knowledge and sense of community beyond campus. Tell us more, Christina.

– Hey, Alex. Thanks for having me. My journey to the College of Arts & Sciences began with a quest for knowledge and a passion for exploration. When I was younger, I had no clue where my academic journey was gonna take me, but I found my home in the College of Arts & Sciences where endless opportunities awaited. The College of Arts & Sciences provides an environment where my love for numbers works alongside my passion for language and culture. I’ve taken many classes within data science that helped me land an internship each summer during college. My learning also took an international turn last semester when I studied abroad in Seville, Spain. For four months, I lived my life entirely in Spanish. Conversations with my host family, waiters, professors, and my new Spanish friends. I explored all over Spain, from the beaches and cities to ancient Roman ruins, and even royal palaces. This experience not only enhanced my language skills, but also broadened my global perspective. But college is more than just learning. It’s also creating and connecting community. I love being a part of the different communities within Eastern that allow me to gain even more practical experience. Within the Latinx Student Association, I helped plan the annual quinceanera. In the Women in Computer Science Club, I help young girls dive into the world of technology. I’ve even started my own data science community within EMU to build connections between students in our major. This is the place where anyone can achieve their dreams or create new ones. Eastern has given me the opportunities to broaden my global perspective. They also give me the resources to dive headfirst into my career in technology. At Eastern, endless opportunities await.
